Felter and Fibre Artist
Katrin was born and raised in Berlin, Germany and moved to Nova Scotia 18 years ago. In 2010 she settled in Nova Scotia’s beautiful Annapolis Valley. Katrin is a self-taught artist. By way of her love for creating beautiful and useful things, Katrin has been knitting, sewing and painting most of her life. When introduced to felting 10 years ago she realized that she had found a medium that excited her to her core and would allow her to fully express her creativity through art. The colours of her wool are brilliant and vibrant, and the tactile sensations of the roving and finished felt speak to her soul. Katrin draws her inspiration from nature, her everyday surroundings and her daughters’ fantasies. Being mindful of the environment she delights in upcycling sweaters using wet and needle felting techniques into new beautiful useful wearables, objects or art.
Katrin has exhibited and sold her work in many small galleries, artist’s co-ops and gift shops throughout Nova Scotia. She has participated annually in the Staff, Student and Alumni Art Exhibition at Dalhousie University and her felt art has been featured on the gallery’s website and was a 2014 Uncommon Common Art artist.
Katrin welcomes custom orders and has been teaching felting workshops since 2013. See our events page for her class or contact Katrin to ask for a class schedule or arrange for custom classes.
