About Nistal Prem De Boer
Nistal lives in Nova Scotia, Canada, but was born in Amsterdam and studied architecture in Delft. Most of his life he worked as an architect and builder, while sculpture was a hobby. About 20 years ago he stopped working as an architect when he started to sell sculpture. While he sees his architecture as very sculpturesque, it was certainly abstract; His sculpture however brought him back to the human figure. Nistal is intrigued about how to express the ephemeral, the fleeting and transitory in the permanent, lasting medium of bronze: the timeless bronze represents to him the never changing moment we live in, the Power of Now: Always experienced in different ways, fresh again and again. The human form is his greatest inspiration, certainly it’s unspeakable beauty, but very much also, its ability to change and to show the processes of transformation. He loves playing with our ability to consciously or subconsciously read all these expressions. Nistal works mostly from life models, however he is not concerned about the anatomical correctness. His concern is the expression, the feelings generated by the work.
